new news newsy: in a selling (and smelling) mood
estée lauder to sell stila. the mother company acquired the hip makeup brand in 1999 in an effort to attract a younger market, but due to disappointing sales, is now forced to unload it as a cost-cutting initiative and in order to increase profitability. stila was part of that bandwagon of independent cosmetic brands created by professional makeup artists back in the 90s. it started as a recycled-cardboard-encased eyeshadow by celebrity makeup artist jeanine lobell, also known as the wife of hollywood actor anthony edwards (ER). part of the cute packaging was the surprise quote inside the lid, the child-like drawings on tubes and jars, and the typewriter-style font... or maybe estée lauder has had to unload deadbeat brands to make up for what tom ford spent to produce, launch and market the new tom ford estée lauder collection, which includes the reworked fragrance youth dew amber nude and a cosmetics collection encased in gold. the collection won't launch in the philippines till second quarter of next year, so kung tom jones ka for tom ford, you'll have to make pabili in the US or europe... salvatore ferragamo, which acquired emanuel ungaro (right, a typical design from the spring/summer 2006 collection, now designed by vincent darré, formerly of moschino and fendi) in 1996, has sold the french luxury label to an american high-tech company. the italian company, however, will hold on to the licensed products, like leather goods and fragrance... still on fragrance, anna sui is working on her first men's fragrance. alberta ferretti and juicy couture are also planning fragrance launches next year. and following in paris's footsteps, so is nicole richie?? (reportedly, to be called different.) even model niki taylor has one called begin. other fragrances in the works, to launch soon, or newly launched: beyonce's true star gold by tommy hilfiger, bulgari thé rouge (pictured at left), salvatore ferragamo incanto charms, lancôme tropique, givenchy lovely prism, burberry brit gold, thierry mugler alien, miss dior chérie, calvin klein euphoria, and finally, elizabeth arden, after its successful teamup with britney spears, is now after hilary duff.
