top shop: marni's room

if you've got a funky fashionista in your christmas list and you don't know what to get her (or him), go off the beaten track and trek on over to marni's room. who is marni? marni is that scruffy little thing, left, but her room is owned by designer louie claparols. we met louie when he used to work at paul smith, shangri-la plaza branch. he was always very helpful and accommodating, but never imposing. in fact, medyo shy siya. but he's not shy about his devotion to imelda marcos; many of his pieces have her impeccably coiffed and made-up face emblazoned on them. anyway, louie decided to convert several rooms in his tiny flat into a cute little shop that sells, aside from his designs, vintage and second-hand items (both designer brands and unlabeled stuff). prices are higher than what you'd get them for at your regular ukay-ukay, but you don't have to ukay (dig) through dusty bins and racks packed tight with crap till you find a treasure. clothes here are clean and nicely hung as you can see. marni's room is located at 1946 agoncillo st., malate manila, call or text 0927-739-5925 or 0917-388-8918 for an appointment, or visit picturetrail.com/marnisroom, where he regularly posts his new stuff.
