shangri-la plaza shopping report

this afternoon we had a couple hours to kill at the ortigas center area, so we opted to do it at shangri-la plaza. we wanted to check out the mall-wide spring sale. when they said spring sale, we don't think they meant it was a springtime sale; rather that the spring collections were already FOR sale. the only stores that had an honest-to-goodness sale (only when merchandise is at least 50% off is it considered a real sale!) were crossings department store and pipay. so here's what caught our eye:

1. early, early friday morning (as in 1:30-in-the-morning early), we got a text message that said, "fendi takes you into the heart of summer. coming in pastel and denim hues, spy and magic bags are absolute must-haves! fendi spring/summer 06 now available at rustan's." so we went to check it out. talk about timing, the salesladies just brought out the ONE spy bag they had in rustan's tower. rustan's makati has the exact same bag, with also ONE piece in stock. so there are only TWO of these bags in the country! quick, make that reservation! it'll only set you back 125,000 pesos! it looks somewhat like the bag below in a tan or honey leather (help, bag hag, YOU would know the exact shade name!), with fendi logo lining of course but without the wisteria cutouts. it's a strange-looking bag, in our opinion...

2. we also got another text message announcing "hotwind sale! starting april 7, be the first to avail of up to 50% off on selected styles. hotwind is located at glorietta 4, between lush and la elegancia. see you there!" well, we knew that, but we also knew they had an outlet at the ramp of crossings department store. well, surprise surprise, not anymore! this section is no more...

3. some brands at the ramp don't seem to be doing so well. we saw a lot of the same things that were hanging there when the section opened last october 2005. but if you're in the market for those big-bug-eyed sunglasses (summer's must-have necessity), you can get them at wild flower. check these out...
those big white frames on the lower right side remind us of christian dior's glossy 1 sunglasses, which have become the trademark accessory of jenni epperson and bryanboy (but these cost only 269 pesos, as opposed to dior's US$269! or more...)

(bryanboy photo "borrowed" from bryanboy. thanks, BB!)

4. set to open soon at the boarded-up spaces in between mango and debenham's on the third level: relocated-from-the-fifth-level in style (which sells over-priced old navy, gap, banana republic and lilly pulitzer) and a free-standing laundry by shelli segal shop. the latter is distributed by store specialists inc (SSI), the same people who brought in zara, debenhams and all those luxury labels (prada, gucci, et. al.). word on the grapevine is they're set to bring in mexx (a dutch label now owned by liz claiborne) and ecco (a shoe brand from denmark) within the year.

5. remember those flower cutouts hanging at rustan's which were compared to inno sotto's flower cutouts? you be the judge:

6. finally, as a public-service announcement, shangri-la plaza's new mall hours:
