the absolut party (oh no, not another one... yes, another one...). last night's party (held at an abandoned house in dasmariƱas village, which had to be outfitted with electricity, running water and air-conditioning by the organizers) was to launch the third absolut label fashion collection. the first was all about T-shirts (country collection), the second about bags (famous collection), and this latest one, about underwear (1879—the year absolut was founded—collection). as usual they picked the best up-and-coming young fashion talent from all over the world, and one of them was filipino designer lesley mobo! wow proud! out of the eight picked this year, who all had to design underwear based on the famous vodka bottle, only lesley designed underwear for men. parang YC bikini briefs! let's watch the show, shall we (and sorry you won't get to see much because the models were covered with these sweeping black capes, which practically covered everything, and they were not instructed to stand still long enough for the photographers to take pix. or maybe they didn't follow instructions? to get a better view, log on to this)...

ladies and gentleman, lesley mobo!
that's not him. that's the model wearing his design. here's a close-up, just in case you didn't get a good look at those tighty whities...
this is lesley mobo. isn't he cool? feeling british...
well, he can actually be considered a british designer now because he's been based in the UK for many years, and is a head designer for the jasmine di milo line at harrod's. and he's the only filipino designer we know who has actually shown a collection in paris fashion week! (albeit not under his name.) basta, lesley, pag famous ka na, don't forget us ha...

Hi lesley, I read your article on inquirer several dayas ago.. I was amazed oon how you told your story...despite all th eglamor and fame... you never lost hold of your feet on the ground to cry over the pain of being ditched by co-designers here...
looking through ur designs online... it truly is a work of art... ganyan talaga sa pinas... they never look up on people who are budding in the industry... crab mentality i guess... or whatever should it be called... pero pag sumikat na... lahat aangkinin ng pinoy... tipong singer ka ba or band kahit ang kanuno-nunoan mo pa ang filipino the media will drag your name and hype you as one of the "filipino ingenuity" ek ek ek.... very superficial and very cheap...
nway, to you girl...i am very proud of you... i keep searching for the urchin design but i couldn't find it online...
have a great day ahead...just expressing my thoughts... na touch kasi ako sa interview mo...
