all the world's a stage

if you use a nokia phone, raise your hand. we see a lot of hands out there, including ours. (although our nokia is an ancient one. hmmm, we don't even know what the model number is...) last night it was all about the new nokia Nseries. the invitation was a dead giveaway that we would be seeing some movies at the launch. hello, it was popcorn! (albeit in a weird pesto flavor.) after the usual cocktails and cam-whoring outside, people were led inside the ayala museum for speeches and a showing of the nokia Nseries ad, which has been all over TV for the last couple weeks. we love gary oldman, to us he's like the rock star of hollywood actors (he used to be married to uma thurman, you know), but love him or not, this is one of the best commercials we've seen recently. good thing too for nokia because most of their TV ads have been duds—really corny and boring stuff that made us go "huh??" they were really being left behind by sony ericsson, samsung, and jeez, even motorola! they were probably resting on their laurels, but watch it, nobody fawns over nokia phones anymore. but things may change with the N93. then a black maze was unveiled that had seven TVs, each one showing a mini-movie filmed by seven local filmmakers using the N93 mobile phone with video camera. ok, let's get one thing straight, these pix are just peeks into the videos. the DVD given away specifically said "this DVD and its contents are not for public exhibition." (does this blog count as public exhibition?) anyhoo, we encourage you to go see the mini-movies, which will be on exhibit at the greenbelt 3 cinema lobby from september 1-10, and tell us which one is your favorite!

oh andrea!

prince andrea casiraghi is in town! oops, we were told many times yesterday, he is NOT a prince. but please address him as MISTER casiraghi (even if he IS only 22). the fash pack was invited to the press conference yesterday at the makati shangri-la. it wasn't at the ballroom or at any of the fancy outlets, just in one of the small function rooms. we were expecting to have our bags checked and our bodies frisked, but no, it was like a million other press cons we've attended. we made sure to sit next to the small stage where he was to be seated and interviewed by the moderator. but as soon as he entered, the paparazzi went wild! well, there goes our view... we never sat down again, otherwise all we would see would be alex van hagen's head and the big butts of a hundred photographers... well, what can we say, basta na-in love kami kay andrea. how could we not? he's super cute, so softspoken and polite, but very casual—check out the long tousled blonde locks, the dirty loafers, the frayed hem of his chinos, and what looked like a rubber band on his wrist, maybe to tie his hair back with (we know, we do the same thing, haha!) here's a short video we took, as he answered a question about what impressed him the most during his visit to manila so far:

he's still here (till sunday!) and you can party with him tonight at nuvo. just pay the entrance fee of P1,000, which is your donation to the amade-virlanie foundation (oh yah, that's why he's here, to visit the foundations his grandmother was involved with when she was still alive), and you get a bracelet similar to lance armstrong's live strong. see you there?

another three in one, continued

after getting loaded on caffeine at the diet coke, oops, coke light dinner, we knew we couldn't go home yet. why waste the buzz? we headed to greenbelt 2 for two events. nuvo was hosting a jewelmer party with free-flowing moët—we're there!—and models showing off some of their lovely pearl jewelry. like what you see? models tutay (left) and isabel. no wonder isabel wasn't at the coke show. she happens to be rhett's muse (and discovery), so she always either opens or closes his show. well, she still got to wear rhett last night. doesn't she look like angelina jolie?? love those lips! after the bubbly ran out, we were offered this new drink called chill, a premium beer by carlsberg, which they insist is not light beer or some sissy alco-pop drink. finally, our last stop was the opening of the newly renovated temple bar (is it still a restaurant?). the configuration is still the same, they just pretty much painted everything white, even the buddha. and wouldn't you know it? attire requested was white, in order to match the interiors. how convenient for those of us who came from the coke light event. needless to say, temple was packed with familiar faces, many of whom we recognized as regulars of embassy. does this mean the embassy habitués have found a new home? either way, erik cua wins; he owns both.

another three in one

tonight was another one of those TTN (tuloy-tuloy na) nights, when you hop from one event to another, and through each one the more sloshed you get. and the more sloshed you get, the less you remember. it doesn't help either when you take less pictures, which are supposed to serve as a reminder of how what happened where (as in, why do we have a stamp on our wrist? who's calling card is this in our purse? why is there a lipstick-kiss mark on the hem of our dress? :-o)
first was the launch of the new packaging of coke light (which we can't get over calling diet coke, which was its original name, and which it still is called in the states) called "all white, no black." actually there is some black—the new coke light has a rim of black at the top, so if the can you're holding has a red rim, old stock yan. and of course, the drink itself is black. the entire rockwell tent was dressed in white, including the air-conditioning units. oh, they were always white... there was one long curvy runway and guess what it also served as the dinner table! how very dries van noten! look at this beautiful set-up: of course, what added to the ambience was that guests were asked to come in all-white. and of course, after the delicious south-beach-friendly dinner catered by florabel there was an all-white fashion show by rajo laurel, patrice ramos-diaz, and rhett eala. who is your favorite? let's look at the clothes, then you decide...
rajo laurel:

patrice ramos-diaz:

rhett eala:

there was also an exhibit of diether ocampo's photographs of his fellow showbiz folk, and he was there to receive a check of P100,000 from coca-cola for his KIDS (kabatahan inyong dapat suportahan) foundation. sigh, isn't he perfect? guapo na, mabait pa, multi-talented pa, tapos generous pa! kristine, you are one lucky biatch! to be continued good night!

beauty blog

some readers have noticed that we've been posting some beauty-related entries recently, and have asked us to write about and review new beauty products. here are some we've recently tried and liked.
lancôme juicy gelée crystal-clear lip gloss syrup shine easily wins for cutest packaging. the clear plastic orbs remind us of those prizes we used to get as kids from a box of cracker jacks or cereal. (do they still give those little toys away?) and we love the jelly consistency, they're almost good enough to eat! (but don't.) we have this in cerise (cherry in french), and when you put it on, it gives you super-sheer color. best worn over lipstick. and best to keep away from under the sun. do NOT leave in the car because it will melt, seep out of the jar, and leave a sticky residue that's difficult to wipe off! (stick it into the fridge like real jell-o.)
guerlain kisskiss lacque is like lipstick in a lipgloss form. the sponge-tip applicator gives you dense color that lasts, but is shiny enough that you don't have to top it with a gloss. we usually like to apply lipbalm first to moisturize the lips, then apply lipstick, so that the latter just glides on smoothly. but with kisskiss, our two-step is reduced to one. saves time.
we're one of those people who likes to match the color of their eyeshadow to the color of their outfit. we know, we know, it sounds kinda baduy, but it's a subtle way to "finish" one's whole look. of course, we're not talking one shade from lashline to eyebrow; it's more of adding a touch of color to our lids blended with natural brown shades on the crease. and shu uemura always comes out with the most vivid shades. this season, they launched the "filigree" collection, which has greenish metallic shades—perfect to blend with more natural earth tones. and you gotta love the new packaging!
the body shop lip & cheek stain has been one of their best sellers ever since it was introduced back in the late 90s, first in a rollerball form (reminiscent of those sticky flavored lipglosses from the 70s), then discontinued, then resurrected due to popular demand in a re-packaged sponge-tip applicator. most of us are used to powder blush, so inexperienced "blushers" will need some practice applying this, but once you get the hang of it, you'll love it! because it looks so natural, like the kind of healthy flush you get after an hour of working out. or pinching your cheeks. we suggest you use this after moisturizing your skin first, and it works better with liquid or cream foundation, rather than powder foundation.
if you're lazy about your skin care like we are, then this is the perfect thing for you. we discovered this during the launch of the face shop, where the staff sampled them on clueless customers. but how could we resist? the event lasted way past 8pm, and by that time, it felt like glorietta turned the air-conditioning off, so it was hot! and there were these chilled face mask sheets made with strange-sounding ingredients like sanyak & sansuyoo and sanghwang & nokyong (they sound like exotic cartoon characters). forget about reading the korean instructions. we were advised to store them in the fridge and pull one out at night after cleansing our face. apply and leave on for 15 minutes; do not rinse off. a perfect way to end the day...

it was ninoy aquino's 23rd death anniversary today. is the filipino still worth dying for?

three in one

we know it's been a while, but when you write for a living, writing gets in the way (wha?). there's a jumble of words in our head and we just can't put them into order. plus all the big, fat, super-thick september issues are out and it takes up so much time just to finish going through one! then of course, there are the evening events that last till way past midnight. who has time to blog?? take for example, last thursday, we attended no less than three events, one after the other. and to think there were at least three other events that we missed! (mainly because we weren't invited, bah. well, maybe it's better that way. can you imagine gong to six events in one night??) 7pm: the sneak preview of greenbelt 5 by way of an exhibit of one its future tenants, aranaz, held at the greenbelt 3 lobby. (more exhibits by future tenants to come; maybe it's in alphabetical order.) and for those clueless people, hello, greenbelt 5 is not yet open! we actually heard of some guests going around and around looking for greenbelt 5. you'll be going around till next year. this is what GB5 looks like: of course, this was taken a couple months ago, so there's more progress. here is the radiantly pregnant amina aranaz, the creative talent behind those gorgeous bags, which we heard are already being sold at specialty shops in the US. in fact, her bags have even appeared in women's wear daily's accessories special. soon, vogue (you never know)! amina is standing next to her "jet-setter" collection, unique luggage of different sizes made of native material and embroidered with flowers. look at her, glowing! blooming! we want to look like that when we get pregnant :-) some other aranaz bags on display (which will be there till the end of the month)...

9pm: opening of piedra at the fort strip 3/f. it's a new resto/bar with a gothic design that's why the attire requested that night was gothic chic. everybody (except us; we forgot about the dress code) was in black, so we couldn't tell the wait staff from the guests. next time you're there, look for the owner, geri, you can't miss her. here she is in her rhett eala gown:

11pm: after getting our fill of moët and deviled eggs (yum!) at piedra, we walked down to embassy for the joint birthday party of four of our favorite fashion people—randy ortiz, henri calayag, tonichi nocom and ronald pineda. who knew that this barkada all had birthdays so close to each other? the music was 70s-themed, so there was a lot of "swinging" going on when we got there. the club was filled with their friends and supporters in and out of the industry, so the celebrators were all over the place, we couldn't get them together for a photo. happy birthday, mothers!

the korean invasion is complete

what were we talking about, bored? there are lots of fashion and beauty things going on. today, for example, there were lots of fashion and beauty events, but we weren't invited to any of them, so what's the point? attention, PRs, do your jobs! jeez... unless the snub was intentional. worried we might lambast your products? why, we're nice naman ah... well, one event we were invited to was the formal launch of the face shop, the third largest cosmetics company in korea (what the first two are, they didn't tell us), last friday evening at glorietta 3. brought to the philippines by suyen corporation, the same company that owns bench, human, kashieca, celio, fix, pcx, first-aid, f salon, dimensione—did we miss anything?—the owners thanked the fash pack for featuring it (see thursday, july 27, 2006) because customers came in saying they read it in our blog. oh really?? validation at last... haha! as expected, some of the bench endorsers were there, like the always-controversial richard gomez, his oh-so-lovely wife lucy (whose skin is so blindingly white and luminous), our crush diether ocampo who is always nice and gracious to fawning fans like us, his "wife" (?) kristine hermosa who we can't quite figure out (simple lang ba ang beauty niya? o wala lang makeup? snabera ba sha? o shy lang?), francine prieto who is getting more "voluptuous" each time we see her, and even the face shop endorser kwon sang woo (a.k.a. cholo) was there! relax, "stairway to heaven" fans, it was just a cardboard cutout! the guests...

the products...
