putrajaya

back to our malaysia sojourn... the fash pack also got to visit putrajaya, which is about an hour's drive from kuala lumpur. from what our tour guide (and the brochures) told us, this city used to be swampland, but because KL was getting a bit crowded, the government wanted to move the federal offices outside and picked this spot. so they've been developing this area for the last 10 or so years, and have already spent 300 billion ringgit—did we hear that right?? when they finally finish by 2015, they would have spent a TRILLION ringgit by then! (US$1 is about 3.5 ringgit. 1 ringgit is about 13-something pesos.) we went on a saturday and it was pretty empty, almost like a ghost town.. all the better to admire the architecture. they had modern buildings...
they're not the petronas twin towers, but nice enough

more traditional structures...
love the pattern on the giant dome of this mosque

lovely landscaped parks with lots of greenery...
check out the spaceship-looking sculpture at the end

and lots of bridges over the manmade lake that connect the "islands" together...
just passing through...

not much to do here really, but to enjoy the tranquility when you want to get away from the city and crave some peace and quiet.
