the fash packs...

and believe it or not we're in the airport right now blogging on our iphone. Sarap to use this when theres wifi! But this dang qwerty keyboard is so dang tiny even for our small fingers. We have an 820am flight to Singapore on Singapore airlines. Now we've heard wonderful things about SQ's first and business class sections but since economy lang kami nagpakapal na kami and asked for an upgrade. Kapal talaga! Let's see what happens, if our sweet or pa-sweet smiling face will work on them. (please please sige na please...) we tell ya you really can't predict what the airport will be like. We got here 3 hours before our flight because remember that flight to Bangkok months ago? Well this time it was a breeze. No long queues anywhere. Shocker! Are they getting efficient on us?? Anyhoo we gotta go. Its not easy to type on this keyboard. Plus its correcting everything we type in even the Tagalog words. See ya in Singapore!

la lang...

the fash pack is sad :-( after our computer crashed, our resident mac doctor took a look at it and said we needed a new mother board (actually he said we needed a new computer, but nooo! we love our imac!). so we ordered a second-hand one from US ebay. a week later, it arrived and our mac doctor performed the "surgery" and voila! we were back online yipee! but alas the excitement was short-lived because a couple days later, before we could even put in a new post, the computer crashed once again huhuhuuu :'-( this time the mac doctor diagnosed it as a shortage of memory. jeez, must be the 15,000 pix we have stored in iphoto. plus assorted hidden files and folders we don't need anymore. and all that junk e-mail! please take us off your spam list! so now we are squatting, and have been on other people's computers and, not to mention, the office computer (uy, bawal yan!). so regular lurkers will have to excuse us we if we don't post anything exciting... the other night, we attended the shu uemura-motorola-globe event at NBC tent and we can't tell you how many people came up to us and asked why we haven't been posting, if we've been lazy or busy (or bored, as usual), or if we've even given it up altogether and moved to multiply or something! but it was tina T of shu who kinda perked us up when she mentioned that our blog has been included in her report to the l'oréal head office in new york! inaykopo bakit?? because of all our posts about their brands specifically kiehl's. na-pressure tuloy kami. we started imagining the fash pack being included in all sorts of reports being sent to company presidents and CEOs all over the world... scary? cool? it's scary cool! meanwhile, we will try to get back to our regular programming. can't disappoint those CEOs...

too bare for the air?

two months ago, this girl was asked to get off a southwest airlines flight from san diego to tucson in the US because of her too-revealing outfit. this is her and the exact outfit she was wearing that day: here's another shot complete with shoes and bag: so what do you think? is she dressed too provocatively? will she excite men and offend women and set a bad example to children? girls who take the jeepney here are sometimes dressed in even less! her shoulders aren't even bare, her neckline is not low, and the mini looks like any other mini worn by any other gal in the mall. sure, her boobs are big, but that's not her fault (that is, if they're real, hehe ;-) and take note, she was not braless! when we heard about this on the today show, we were prepared to be shocked by her outfit. well, we WERE shocked but not by the outfit, but by the fact that a southwest employee was so [hot and] bothered enough by it! and guess what, the employee was male!

R.I.P. anita roddick

we were in the office this morning making chismiss on the phone (take note, on the much-neglected landline) with a friend, telling her how she missed seeing her crush roger federer on the today show, when she trumped our news by blurting, "anita roddick is dead." whaaat?! why do all the good ones die?? she died monday at the age of 64 of a brain hemorrhage. we've met anita roddick a couple times when she came to the philippines—first, for the opening of the first the body shop store in glorietta 2 back in the mid 90s (forget the exact year). we even got to interview her and have our picture taken with her (cheap thrills! uy, naka-frame na 'yon...). then again a few years ago, when she had stepped down from running the company but remained on the board. she was here to talk to big company presidents and CEOs on how to make their businesses more "ethical" and "green" and "moral." she was a very good public speaker, very passionate and quite riveting. then last year, she sold the body shop to l'oréal for over a billion (!) dollars, a move that she was criticized for because her little mom-and-pop operation was the complete antithesis of huge global conglomerates (and nothing could be bigger than l'oréal in the beauty biz). many in the industry also questioned her anti animal testing stance. we remember interviewing an executive of another "all-natural" brand and compared it to the body shop, when he sniffed, "read their label. it says 'AGAINST animal testing,' not 'NO animal testing.' there's a big difference." ay taray! dame anita roddick, may your mission/vision of protecting the environment continue with us who remain on earth and can do something about it.

PMAP 20th anniv

and now for your late breaking news... as in this breaking news is late, haha! not late at night (which it is), but late as in huli sa balita. that's us. the PMAP (professional models association of the philippines) held its 20th anniversary gala at the peninsula manila wednesday night, and here we are, writing about it two days later. now if you're gonna attend an event filled with models, you know you're gonna look like crap for sure, so you gotta do what you gotta do in order to at least, ahem, "blend in." so nag-gown kami, at nag-pa-blow-dry kami, at nag-pa-makeup kami... tuloy we got there so late! the lobby was already filled to the rafters with people holding their tulip-shaped champagne glasses. get us some of that moët! but alas, we were too late.

we interrupt this post with another piece of late breaking news, and this time it's really news, as in REALLY bad news. it is now sep 10, monday, and we were forced to end the above post because... our computer crashed!!! waaaahhh!!! so there we were, posting the above and it was taking us forever. so we decided to take a break and go blog lurking, something we haven't done in the last couple weeks. so we went to the bag hag. she wrote about the PMAP event too and posted pix of some of the same people whose photos we also took. then we went to chuvaness. she was writing from singapore and talking about her "harrowing" flight from hong kong to manila, and we scrolled down to the photo of her seatmates, then we swear nag-hang ang computer! each time we re-started and tried to launch safari, it wouldn't. neither would mail nor ichat nor iphoto. we managed to save all our files and photos in an external hard drive, but it looks like our motherfuckinboard is deado. so now nakiki-gamit kami ng laptop. how sad...

eat, drink, and be merry for tomorrow we shall die[t]

people who know us think we're thin. the truth is, we USED to be thin. we were a thin baby. we were a thin child. then we hit puberty. bam! here come the hips. the thighs. the flabby arms. the puson. we were waiting for the boobs to follow suit. unfortunately, they never did :-( some people have the type of body that look better naked. or at least in a bikini. we have the type of body that looks better in clothes. hell, yeah! the better to hide the flaws with! so we camouflage the "bill blass" and the UADD and the saddle bags and the dreaded orange peel. eww! so we diet. or at least try to. we're terrible dieters. we think it's because we have thin clothes and fat clothes. the thin clothes we wear when we've lost some weight and the waistlines don't pinch. the fat clothes we wear when we're feeling fat. but mind you, they don't make us look fat. in fact, they make us look thin that people compliment us, we end up thinking we ARE thin. so we start eating again. then we get fat and the whole cycle begins again. so why not use "technology" to keep the weight off problem spots permanently? because we're not THAT vain? because we're happy with what god gave us? (?) because we're, er, chicken? because we don't like paaaiiiinnn... and we can't understand why people voluntarily go under the knife or have themselves poked and prodded. masakit yon. diet and exercise na lang. we know, nakakatamad and there are just too many lovely things to eat out there. like this morning, we had a meeting in someone's house and we were offered a slice of chocolate cake. we couldn't stop staring at it. finally we succumbed and took ONE bite. THAT'S ALL. so disciplined of us! but guess what? it's been eight hours and we're still thinking about that cake. it was goooood... now we regret not eating the whole damn thing! so we had an epiphany, and decided, right before we started writing this post: life is too short! why deprive yourself of good food and drink?? as long as we do it in moderation and don't get obese and don't get [too] drunk every night, we should be ok. so excuse us while we open a bottle of wine and have ourselves a creamy pasta dish. carbs be damned!!!

we just wanted to share these pix with you

last week we attended an event at makati shangri-la. there were lots of people. there was flowing drinks. there was tons of food. there was the sushi station, the pasta station, the dessert station, but this was our favorite section: the bag station! well, they were not serving real bags. here is the artisan putting the finishing touches on the giant bag cake: and here's the finished product. now doesn't it resemble a certain bag style by a certain french brand that collaborated with a certain japanese artist? we even got to take home one of the mini totes... eye love it!

our mall tour continues...

it was chuvaness who first told us about the ben sherman shop in shangri-la plaza. "you have to check out the fitting rooms," she said. of course this was months ago! well, we finally entered these doors...
and we loved it! we loved the store's interiors, that is. we loved the "british-ness" of it, thanks to these lounge-y chairs upholstered in the union jack...
and the framed photos of mod kids from the 60s, including the ultimate mod, pete townshend (you hear his licks each time you watch "CSI")...
and look at the cool fitting-room wallpaper (one of the frames is actually a mirror. can you tell which one? that's not our feet ha)...
oh we almost forgot they sell clothes pala. which we failed to shoot (oops). but we did shoot some of the accessories...
ben sherman is a british brand that's been around since the 60s. it was brought here by the same group that brought in paul smith. that group is set open a multi-brand shop called ... or dotdotdot or three dots in greenbelt 5 by october, which will carry cool designer lines like mcQ, see by chloé, eley kishimoto, and more. ben sherman will open a second branch also in greenbelt 5 by november.
