now open: banana republic

tonight was the formal opening of banana republic on the ground floor of greenbelt 5—finally. the store is huge! by greenbelt 5 standards. (and not counting adora.) the event was well-attended. aside from da man himself, anton huang, we spotted the US ambassador (she is sooo skinny in person, she must either be overworked or have a high metabolism), assorted society staples, fierce fashionistas, media peeps, and a smattering of zobels. clothes are pretty basic, safe, and classic with a tiny twist, and made for the everyday woman (and man). prices are quite friendly too, just a tad higher than the zaras and the mangos. blouses start at P3,000+ while dresses go from P6,000+ to P9,000+. this is what they call "accessible luxury." the spring/summer collection was divided into its safari-ish collection... citrusy brights... color of the season (purple)... simple evening cocktail dresses... plus the ever-important accessories, of course...

Now that BR is passe in the U.S., it opens a shop in Makati. I would love to see an A&F store in Manila with topless male associates wearing destroyed jeans and flip flops. That would be a big hit in muggy Metro Manila.
