bench blackout

every two years, the bench underwear show is always the most highly anticipated "fashion" show of the year. and because it comes only every two years and because it is highly anticipated, you expect A LOT. and you can't help but compare it with past shows. and last night's show in comparison to some past shows was... a bit of a letdown. first of all, the title—"blackout." great title, but... what did it have to do with the show? maybe we missed something because an hour and 10 minutes into the show... we left. it was about 9:30pm and we were hungry na eh. didn't have dinner because it took an hour to get to araneta coliseum from makati, which is expected on a rainy friday night. the entertainment value of the show came to a point where we thought, if we leave now, will we miss anything? nah. let's go. taco bell is waiting.

ps: most applauded celebrity: dingdong dantes. but applauses and screams this year were quite few and far between. why kaya?

Who was the event organizer?

heard from friends that the show was flat, it lacked energy, and boring. heard from an insider that the general vibe at the backstage was heavy. everybody was grumpy, high strung, not fun at all.
thank god i didn't go. to travel all the way to cubao to watch this carnival would be an exercise in futility.

I had the fortunate opportunity to work backstage for the show. Anyone who has ever worked backstage in a fashion show knows how busy and how important it is to stay focus, specially when you have to make sure models go out on time and have the right outfit on. Not to mention the stress involved with quick changes, accessories, make up, and correct line ups. Try changing 100+ models for 5 separate production numbers and are you going to tell me its going to be a breeze? Not including the celebrities.

Being backstage that night was tiring but ultimately fun for me. I would do it again. At the beginning and the end of the show everyone was cheering, myself included.

the event director was none other than Lorianda Anselmo....His fantasies on men were very evident on how the male models look. The cheapest fashion show! The one with Robbie Carmonas' Bench Fever in 2006 is better. I totally agree with you Ms. Fashpack, tacobell is better than sitting at the araneta that night.

i was there, too. and they're right. disappointing is an understatement for this one. although i think the teeners (in the opening) have drawn the most cheers and applause. yup, taco bell was way yummier :p

thank you, readers, for all your comments. at the end of the day, though, we must say we're glad we went because if we didn't, we would've regretted it. it's still the most talked about event and a lot of people did enjoy it. and bench still achieved its goal: to sell underwear. because the very next day, we went to a bench store to look for the lesley mobo collection! (didn't find anything for ladies, though...)

I should've followed you to Taco Bell! The billboard of Taco Bell was so visible from where I was seated pa naman.

Nakakahinayang, for such a big production, it didn't have any soul. If I didn't get it, I wonder how the masa in the GP area felt. I spent most of the time trying to figure out what the director was on when he conceptualized.

Ben Chan should just go back to Robby Carmona. The disco show was fun to watch, and it had a concept and direction. Ariel Lozada needs to realize that, ultimately, it's the fans of the people onstage that he's presenting to.

Actually, Ben Chan should go back to the very first show. That was the best. Simple and straight to the point is always effective.

ewan ko ba! Bench looks like it's losing its edge. di ko ma gets yung "blackout" show. at yung music, grabeh! nakaka loka! Baket ba ayaw nilang ulitin yung style of the first show sa Araneta??? Sa lahat ng underwear show, yun yung pinaka okey. I remember seeing jr isaac and a pregnant wilma doesnt walking the long and high runway.
