metrowear 100

this post is two days overdue, but we decided to do what working stiffs should do on labor day and took a couple days off. metrowear 100 happened apr 30 at the manila hotel tent (where a big, lovely, probably hundreds-year-old tree used to stand—whatever happened to that tree??). invite said cocktails 6pm, show starts 7pm. show actually started close to 9pm (the speeches began at 8:40pm). no biggie, we're used to fashion shows starting late. but it was a bit sad to see that, although well-attended, it was not to full capacity. many people we asked, if they were coming said they weren't kasi "ang layo eh." true, if you live in makati or quezon city. plus with the way the weather's been lately, who wants to get all dressed up then get wet in the rain? another reason was there was another event, preview magazine was celebrating its 150th issue with an art-book launch at embassy—a closer option for most people. but metrowear 100 was supposed to be a historic event—100 designers on one stage to celebrate metro magazine's 20th anniversary. sounded like a crazy idea to us, but they certainly pulled it off. congratulations to metro and the 100 designers!

now do we wanna post a hundred pix of a hundred dresses by a hundred designers? er, no. besides we couldn't tell whose outfit was on stage at any given moment because we couldn't see the screen from where we were sitting. so we'll just a pick a few, some because we liked, some because we'll actually wear, some because they looked fresh and current, some because they just made an impression on us, some that made us go hmmm—from a front row point of view. the show was divided into groups and each group had a theme or color palette to work with (but you will see how some didn't exactly conform), so that the show won't look so, well, sabog or kalat or chop suey, you know what we mean... so can you guess who designed these clothes?? (UPDATE: some outfits have been identified. anyone want to help us identify the others..?)

this is great. it was rainy so i decided not to go anymore. nice to see some photozzz.. that #5 cocktail dress with swirling petals looks great but is not so original. almost certainly inspired by valentino spring or fall 08 (dont remember) or joey samson's rosette collection or hindy weber's fleur collection. i cant recall which one of these exactly but that technique i've seen somewhere before. a lot of the other dresses looked rehashed too. please show ivar aseron's dress. was it nice? jun escario...cary santiago...rajo laurel...gian romano? melanie marquez has morf'd into a man. sad...
