in this corner: iora, which has actually been around for a few years now, just quietly opening here and there (and closing—it was one of the casualties of glorietta 2's notorious explosion two years ago). they had a lunchtime launch at the peninsula manila's rigodon ballroom. guests were mostly press, friends and family of the owners, the "landlords" (i.e., mall owners or execs), and the "iora stylephiles".

in the other corner: raoul, which just opened its first branch in greenbelt 5 this year. they had a big launch at the mall's's fashion walk, where anyone who walks by can see (and crash) the party. owned by SSI, you can guarantee the presence of the A-list crowd at the event. (and take note, raoul has menswear too.)

There is actually no competition since they do not even share the same market. Raoul is very upscale, the dresses are in the 5-digit range, definitely for the ladies who lunch while Iora caters more to the working women...
