jazz club

one of the things we miss most from our fashion-editor days is going on press junkets for louis vuitton. they would have at least one every season when they would present the new collection to the regional press in hong kong or singapore or some other asian country. sometimes they would fly us to wherever a new louis vuitton store was having an opening party. it was during one of those trips that we actually had the privilege (more like a fantasy fulfilled) of meeting, interviewing, and partying (!) with marc jacobs! sigh, we miss those days...

and now, maybe because of the recession or cost-cutting or the philippines is not such an important market, louis vuitton events in manila are few and far between. they only hold small "shopping parties" where they invite a select few to the store after hours, lubricate them with moët, and hope they'll drop a lot of coin. so we were excited to receive an invite to their "jazz club" night. the invite had an actual vinyl record with some charlie parker tune—don't know what it is, though, we still have to find a turntable on which to play it! (45 or 33 1/3 RPM kaya?) now we get the current window display: it looks like storage for vinyl records back in the day!
so last thurday night, louis vuitton in greenbelt 4 was transformed into a "jazz club" for a few hours. they had an actual three-piece jazz band that played cool jazz standards...
and an actual bar that served hennessy cocktails (and lots of moët champagne, of course :-)...
on display were several "mobile bars," which are special orders from louis vuitton (we like the one for wine)...
and blow-ups of classic jazz records...

they even brought out the hot-stamping machine for anyone who wanted their initials on their luggage tags, etc (this service is free in case you didn't know, but only for louis vuitton products, of course)...

and since tonight was a special tribute to the mens collections, there were little tableaux of bags, shoes, and accessories on display throughout the store (somebody whispered they pulled out the kanye west collection, hee-hee)...
looks like john coltrane is jonesing for the punchy high-tops..
so did people shop? and how!
