supermodel of the world

got an email from calcarrie's philippines that ford's supermodel of the world finals will be today in sao paulo, brazil. this international competition has been going on since 1980 (remember when it used to be known as "face of the 80s" and tweetie de leon was the first representative from the philippines?) and this year the philippines' representative is a gal named charlene "chat" almarvez, a lass (not a barrio lass ha) from laguna who goes to school at the college of saint benilde. she stands 5'9.5" and was chosen in the national finals last october. good luck, chat!

UPDATE, jan 16, 2009: last night while having dinner out, one of our friends received a text message that chat won first runner-up! congratulations!! can't wait to see all of the wonderful work that will come chat's way! (the top prize went to karlina of latvia.) (photo below courtesy of supermodeloftheworld.com)

I love your blog; however, there is no need to emphasize that she is NOT a barrio lass.

If you remember your experience in the past (kanya ba ang LV na ito?), you should be more careful by now.

In the international arena, as you know, people are recognized based on merits and not based on school, family name, pedigree, or color of the skin which are typically Filipino parameters that will never work internationally. They don't care.

The international community would not have recognized the Charise Pempencos, the Cristeta Comefords, the Arnel Pinedas, the Lesley Mobos, or the Efren Penafloridas of the Philippines if they followed the way we look at people now.
