rustan's 40th annniv

now who hasn't shopped at rustan's supermarket? young or old, you're bound to have walked through their aisles to do your groceries! but what we didn't know was that the branch in ayala center (then called makati commercial center) was the very first branch, which opened in 1970. in those days, the rustan's building's exterior was covered in blue tiles—we actually remember those days, eek!
and do you also remember the coffee shop called yum yum tree? (and before that it was called blast-off cafe—if we're not mistaken, they even had a flying-saucer sandwich.) they recently renovated that and re-named it to benny's cafĂ© in honor of the tantoco patriarch and founder, former ambassador bienvenido tantoco sr.
and remember how rustan's supermarket in shangri-la plaza caught fire a few months ago (which resulted in that crazy fire sale in the department store)? well, after extensive renovation, that also finally opened to the public. we have yet to visit, but based on the pix below, we wanna do our groceries there!
rustan's supermarket also released its annual traditions catalog where you can get lots of ideas for holiday gifts—from the guys who deliver your mail and collect your garbage to the company CEO whose business you've been trying to attract.
in addition, a whole slew of exciting promotions have been lined up to include a once-in-a-40-year sale where many items will actually be sold at 40% off in all rustan’s supermarkets. a raffle featuring 40 highly desirable prizes are also up for grabs. for a minimum purchase, you get a chance to win prizes like an apple iPad, a 42-inch LCD TV, a P50,000 shopping spree, and a brand new mercedes-benz. life really does begin at 40!
