60s-inspired collections

Time travelling fashionisers had a splendid time as Paperdolls and Wharton presented their ‘60s inspired collections at Philippine Fashion Week Spring-Summer 2011, featuring the designs of two of the country’s top designers, Kate Torralba and Rajo Laurel. A sartorial inspiration to men and women, the elements of the swinging sixties come to fore in a manner so chic it’s too hard to resist.
Once again, Paperdolls collaborated with designer Kate Torralba for a collection featuring shift dresses, shirts, wide-legged pants, and boxy jackets in a muted palette of black, white, and camel, which according to Kate is something people did not expect from her. But of course, what is a KT collection without her signature play on prints? Kate created a limited edition KT+PD print she calls “Flame.” “It is actually my favorite in the collection because it’s very, very KT!” Kate said. Her fun, cheeky, and retro-modern collection encapsulates the 21st century girl dreaming of the ‘60s London life, which served as her inspiration for the collection. “If I had my way I’d love to have been around during those days of Mod and Flower Power,” said Kate.
Made for fashion-forward men, Wharton worked with designer Rajo Laurel for his first all menswear collection. He took his inspiration from the youth spirit of the ‘60s and images of James Dean and Marlon Brandon. Key pieces such as sports jackets and fun shirts were given new proportions as well as a quirky design in unusual colors such as gold, silver, and bronze. Rajo also incorporated vintage tailoring in his new collection. “I fell in love with the art of tailoring! I took vintage techniques and skills of tailors from the past and imbibed the discipline in this collection,” said Rajo. His creative, intelligent, and impressionable collection combines the past and the future. “The pieces are deceivingly simple, but with closer inspection you will notice these surprising design elements that will only leave a smile to “W” clients,” he said.
Guests were instantly transported to 1960’s downtown London, with UK’s best import, The Beatles and today’s hippest British bands playing in the background and the typical London street blown up as setting. With over 60 looks from decked up lads and ladies going down the runway, it’s easy to catch the vibe. And to cap off the show, a surprise Paperdolls and Wharton music video from Kate and Rajo was premiered with a remix of The Beatles’ From Me to You and She Loves You as directed by RA Rivera and mixed by Diego Mapa. Making their way through the ramp in bicycles, the gents upped the energy as the ladies walked for the finale. Kate then took the stage and since Rajo was in Paris during the show, the males took out their Rajo masks in representation.
Manila’s most fashionable came to witness the launch. Among the guests were Miriam Quiambao, Pia, Maxene and Clara Magalona, Sarah Meier- Albano with husband Banjo and daughter Kaya, Divine Lee who was clad in a Wharton polo and Victor Basa, Tim Yap, Joey Mead, Ian King, Karen Pamintuan, Brent Javier, Raymond Gutierrez, Celine Lopez, Wendy Puyat, Rosario Herrera, Dra. Vicki Belo, Atom, Cristalle, and Quark Henares, Marc Nelson, Myx VJ Robin Nievera, Jenni Epperson, Cecile Van Straten and Liz Uy. Mexican Ambassador Tomas Calvillo with son Tomas Jr., also came to watch and support the show.
As the venue thinned out, one can hear the guests humming and singing to “She loves you, yeah, yeah, yeah!” With Kate Torralba for Paperdolls and Rajo Laurel for Wharton’s fashion in everyone’s mind, the sixties has truly come full circle.
Paperdolls and Wharton S/S ’11 collection will be available exclusively at selected SM Department stores nationwide. Paperdolls by Kate Torralba S/S ’11 collection will be available at SM Makati, SM Megamall, SM Mall of Asia, SM North Edsa, SM Cubao, SM Fairview, and SM San Lazaro. Wharton by Rajo Laurel will be available by the third week of November at SM Makati, SM North Edsa, SM Mall of Asia, and SM Megamall.

With its promise of making beautiful and youthful skin easy to achieve for women, Pond’s introduces its most luxurious product yet, Pond’s Gold Radiance with real gold microparticles. It makes use of 99% real gold which is certified safe on skin and is believed to help detoxify skin, aid skin renewal and enhance skin elasticity. In this new range, Pond’s harmonizes this power of gold with proven anti-aging ingredients to address the four dimensions of skin dullness: texture, colour, evenness of tone and hydration.

Gold is recently known to enhance the free radical scavenging activity of vitamin E that also has the potential to enhance the performance of known and existent antioxidants to fight the dullness of skin as explained by dermatologist and owner of Skinlaser Manila Dra. Rhesa Martinez-Manaloto.

The affair also launched Pond’s newest endorser and face of Pond’s Gold Radiance Tweetie de Leon-Gonzalez who perfectly epitomizes this latest anti-aging line as she exemplifies a woman of timeless beauty and radiance.

The designers and muses have established a bond together having worked in the industry for quite some time already therefore creating pieces that perfectly fit each muses’ personality and brings out that youthful glow in them.

Hosted by the ever energetic and vibrant Tessa Valdes-Prieto, Pond’s once again celebrates the power and beauty of women as translated through her style, class and ultimately skin that’s glowing and radiant.

im-hm resort

people often get the impression that all children of the rich and/or famous do is travel the world and go shopping. well, that may be true, but some rich kids put those activities to good use. take, for example, bianca zobel who took advantage of her experience and taste (and of course resources) to put up an online store of year-round resortwear called www.im-hmresort.com.
she recently invited a few friends, media, and fashion bloggers into her beautiful home to introduce the website and select pieces from the collection. their perfect-tropical-getaway wardrobe includes basic beach chic to decked-out yacht glamour. choose from swimwear, resortwear, and accessories from australia, brazil, israel, colombia, indonesia, the US, and the philippines!
and if you're the impatient type who can't wait for days or weeks before your delivery arrives, you can attend im-hm resort's upcoming trunk show! details below (and don't forget to RSVP to make sure you're on the list!).

magic pop rice cakes

a few days ago, the ol' gang met up in häagen-dazs, megamall for an ice cram date. yes, you read it right—ice cram. because we had to cram all the catching up in a couple of hours till everyone had to go back to work or go to meetings or get picked up by the hubby. or to go shopping (that was us hehe). we're rarely in megamall, so when we are we go to stores you can't find in everymall. like forever 21, unarosa, our home, and assorted fabric stores. and while we were in the basement level, we saw a crowd of people gathered around this kiosk:
what is it?? a closer look revealed the details—airy korean rice cakes that are 100% natural and made with no oil and zero trans fat:
there was this machine that "popped" out these discs, it was almost like a show. hence, the crowd...
there were samples for the crowd to try and we couldn't resist! so we bought a pack of 15 pieces of regular, unflavored magic pops for only 39 bucks!
but you can also buy flavored versions, like cheese, chocolate, blueberry, strawberry...
it tastes so light and crunchy (and feeling healthy :-) that we can't wait till our next visit to megamall!
