one of the more interesting places we were taken to during our tour of ilocos norte was the sand dunes in paoay. it was sand sand sand as far as the eye could see!
and on the other side, the big beautiful ocean...
they are trying to develop this area into a tourist destination by offering activities like sandboarding and dune-bashing on 4x4s. you can ride in vehicles like these and go up and down those sandy hills. it's egg-ziting!
our hosts gave us some quickie lessons on how to sandboard sitting down and standing up.
our friends who tried it said it was easy, fun, and not scary at all. but we got chicken because we're kinda clumsy. baka tumambling kami sa buhangin at mabali pa ang leeg namin! here's a video of gov imee's son michael who braved it and survived!

UPDATE: a comment from details-later reminded us that the paoay sand dunes was the chosen location for a lot of local and international films! like born on the fourth of july, mad max, ang panday, and yes, temptation island!
