marc jacobs new location

the store in greenbelt 4 moved from its location across louis vuitton to a few stores down right across prada because guess what will take its place: emporio armani opening in may! the spring/summer collection was brought in just for the formal opening party/show last thursday—sorry, they won't be available at the store. look na lang!

here's the stuff you can actually buy! a very chanel-ish collection of quilted leather bags with gold chains and cap-toe mouse flats in a beige/black combo (we actually have that in yellow jelly :-)

these embellishments kinda remind us of those beaded-wire cuffs, rings, and brooches that became all the rage a few years ago when everybody and her sister became an accessories designer:

lesportsac first freestanding store in the philippines

we are here at the formal opening of lesportsac's first freestanding store in the philippines. it's located at greenbelt 5 at the space formerly occupied by bang & olufsen. right now we're waiting for the fashion show to start. no, they don't carry ready-to-wear; the models will be wearing zara, carrying bags by lesportsac's collaboration with joyrich, a los angeles brand known for its work with gwen stefani, stella mccartney, and lilly pulitzer. so in the words of heidi klum, let's start the show!

the first part of the show used "real people" to model the classic collection. above, that's popular style blogger triciawillgoplaces! then the stage turned around like a lazy susan in a chinese restaurant to signal the second part of the show:

"real models" this time to showcase the joyrich collection. here are some closeups of the merchandise!

it's been a while since we'd last eaten at HEAT, the all-day dining restaurant (IOW buffet) at edsa shangri-la. well, now is a good time to go as any as they launch spice adventures, their indian food festival. it starts tomorrow march 25 till april 3. let's eat!

bhuna methi gosht (lamb and fenugreek leaves):

lamb seek kebab (minced lamb):

prawns malai curry (prawns, coconut milk, cashew):

and you can't eat any of this without rice!! there goes the lenten sacrifice!!

kudos to the chefs who were flown in from shangri-la's eros hotel, new delhi:

they were flown in courtesy of philippine airlines, which will next month bring edsa shang's chefs to shang new delhi for a filipino food fest! how's that for cross-promotion?

RIP: elizabeth taylor

this news is so fresh, it appeared on twitter just 10-15 minutes ago. none of the news websites even have it up yet. except TMZ. what can we say? this is a sad sad day for hollywood, for movies, for fashion, for beauty, for our parents who "grew up" with her... even for us. goodbye, liz. one of the most beautiful women in the world. you are a true original.

RIP: louie mamengo

it was yesterday while having lunch that we were exchanging text messages with rajo laurel about pulling out some clothes for a shoot. then he said simply: "louie mamengo died." oh nooooo... we had read in facebook a couple weeks ago, someone called for prayers for louie. apparently he had lung cancer. we'll always remember louie with fondness. and we're pretty sure rajo will too because he apprenticed with louie when he was just starting out and before louie left the country in the late 90s to set up shop in LA. we would get bits of news about how he was doing there, but not so much in the last 10 years. may you rest in peace, louie. let's mamengo!

RL + P&P

for sure many of you have seen the billboard with the flopped letter R + P and have guessed that it was another collaboration between rajo laurel and plains & prints. well, if that's what you guessed then you guessed right. and for weeks leading to that revelation, several bloggers were tasked to post teaser videos of the designer's journey from the time he's inspired to when he finally launches a collection. the fash pack was one of those bloggers and we failed to post the complete set of videos!! there was a total of 11 videos and we only posted four!! eep! sorry rajo sorry plains & prints sorry jujiin samonte who directed those videos.

but we went to the launch, which was held last march 1 at whitespace. there was a "tour" and our tour guide was joey mead (wearing R+P of course).
we happened to be part of the second group who were guided through a maze divided into 11 steps.
we forget what the 11 steps are, but these were some of the more interesting ones: first, illustrations, where guests were encouraged to pick up a marker and write on the wall (hmmm where's our three-year-old niece now that we need her?).
then came patterns, fabrics, and colors, three of our favorite things when it comes to fashion. look at this pattern of beautiful people:
and this rag doll on the floor that came to life and twirled and twirled and twirled!
then came, er, ria bolivar picked to be the face of the collection. we love ria!! she's the perfect "hanger"—she's the model you give the ugliest dress to in a fashion show because she will make it look fabulous!!
finally we reached the end where plastic mannequins and human mannequins showed the audience the versatility of the pieces and how you can wear them many ways. like this gal shows how you can pull up the hem of this knit dress and turn it into a top:
or a dress (with an original print designed by rajo, inspired by science fiction) whose neckline you can shift from one shoulder to the other and get an entirely new dress:
odiba?? there were more! but don't go to the store yet! the collection won't be available till march 11! that's this friday! congratulations to rajo, plains & prints, and the entire team! bravo!!

the circus is coming to town!

have you ever watched a cirque du soleil show? if you haven't, you must!! we remember the first time we saw one, it was in hong kong, maybe, oh, 10 years ago. we were there for a press junket (don't recall for what. maybe for louis vuitton, they always have the best junkets) and part of the itinerary was a cirque du soleil show. we thought to ourselves, ho-hum just some boring circus show for kids binderbindat blablabla... man, were we wrong! because we were blown away by the performance!! it was WOW!!! that's the only way to describe it.

but you don't have to go to hong kong or macau or to las vegas to watch cirque du soleil because they're coming here! to manila!! in june!!! and tickets are available now na!

For the first time in its history, Cirque du Soleil will visit Manila with its live touring production VAREKAI premiering June 22, 2011 for a limited engagement under the blue-and- yellow Grand Chapiteau (Big Top) located at the Luneta, across Quirino Grandstand. Tickets will go on sale starting 12:00 midnight of Friday March 4, 2010 through our online box office at www.hoopla.ph or www.cirquedusoleil.com. For inquiries, call 775-0939, 881-0947, 0919-4508125 and 0917-4436463.

About the show
Deep within a forest, at the summit of a volcano, exists an extraordinary worlda world where something else is possible. A world called VAREKAI. The sky lets go a solitary young man, and the story of VAREKAI begins. Parachuted into the shadows of a magical forest, a kaleidoscopic world imbued with fantastical creatures, a young man takes flight in an adventure both absurd and extraordinary. On this day at the edge of time, in this place of pure and undiluted possibility, begins an inspired incantation to a life rediscovered and to a newly found wonder in the mysteries of the world and the mind. The word VAREKAI (pronounced ver·ay·’kie) means “wherever” in the Romany language of the gypsiesthe universal wanderers. Written and directed by Dominic Champagne, this production pays tribute to the nomadic soul, to the spirit and art of the circus tradition, and to those who quest with infinite passion along the path that leads to Varekai. VAREKAI emerges from an explosive fusion of drama and acrobatics. The impossible becomes possible in stunning displays of skill and power set against innovative music and otherworldly sets, interwoven with vivid choreography that speaks to all in the universal language of movement. The
pendulum of time sweeps backward, paying tribute to the ancient and rare circus traditions of Icarian games, water meteors and Georgian dance. VAREKAI then catapults to the future with revolutionary twists on such acts as Russian swings, body skating and triple trapeze.

james and phil younghusband for collezione C2

right now, we are at the conservatory at the peninsula manila for the formal launch of these two brothers as the new brand ambassadors for collezione C2. these boys have been around for a few years now, being pushed to model or be a part of showbiz. but now they have become household names doing what they love to do: football. james, phil, and the rest of the azkals team have brought pride to the philippines by winning the last south east asian game against mongolia, held in bacolod last month. here are collezione's creative director rhett eala and president joey qua being interviewed by host bianca valerio:

and here are the boys!

stay tuned for the video interview!
