let's eat: diwal-icious

i've been avoiding having too many food posts one after the other, lest this begins to look like a food blog hehe... but this particular food fest involves one of our friends and supporters, and is on for a limited time only. it started today and i tried it and i must share! the info, that is, not the food hehe... i first met chef pauline banusing during my first trip to iloilo back in 2003. i don't think she was a chef yet at the time. but look at her now! (this is her standing next to the paseo uno dessert station, which features the deadly-but-delicious yema cake.)
she's the featured chef at "diwal-icious visayas: bounties of the sea" food fest happening at mandarin oriental's paseo uno. the highlight of the buffet will be seafood, particularly diwal (angel wing clams), which is now in season. it is soooo good! this is what it looks like (served next to bacolod centennial clams):

chef pauline wrote a travel story about her hometown iloilo city in a past issue of style weekend, and like i've said before, the ilonggos are really proud of their food! no trip to the visayas is complete without eatingeatingeating! here's a complete list of the dishes to be served during diwal-icious. start salivating... "diwal-icious visayas: bounties of the sea" will be on from september 19-25, for both lunch and dinner. the buffet is priced at P1,818+, while friday and saturday dinner is priced at P2,200+, inclusive of paseo uno’s luxury buffet. if you wish to recreate the visayan dishes at home, you can join a special cooking class on saturday, september 25, 9am at the tivoli. priced at P2,800 nett, the class will feature chicken inasal; batchoy; kadios, baboy, at langka (KBL); prawns with aligue sauce, and ilonggo-style kilawin na tanguige. a light breakfast, as well as a lunch featuring the dishes demonstrated, will be served. for information and reservations, call paseo uno at 750-8888 or email momnl-fb@mohg.com
