benchingko premiere

this year bench celebrates its 25th anniversary and since the beginning of the year has been having one exciting activity after another. they launched their international endorsers lucy hale and joe jonas, and it's just been announced that american idol finalist jessica sanchez signed on! wow galing! bilis ng bench! i was wondering which filipino brand would snatch her up and i'm glad it's bench! and come september, one of the most anticipated events: the bi-annual bench underwear show, woo-hoo!

last friday night was another milestone for bench. it was the premiere of benchingko (a clever play on bente-singko--25, get it?), a series of short films starring a few bench endorsers. it was held at center stage at mall of asia. when i got there, ben chan was about to be interviewed by the TV press. he's as big a celebrity as his celebrity endorsers!

once seated inside, the celebs started arriving one by one. starting with the sultry lovi poe. what a body this girl has:

and here comes lucy! i admire this woman. she lives a charmed life, but it is not lost on her. she uses all those wonderful opportunities thrown her way to do good:

and how can you miss papa P?? screams in the cinema when piolo pascual arrived!

and seated right behind me was ms. bella flores, the kontrabida queen of philippine cinema. she faced the audience and told them, i love you all!

you can view all the films on bench's youtube channel called benchTV

G-star raw opening

before i received the invitation to this store opening, i had never heard of G-star raw denim. my guess is neither have a lot of other pinoys. it's a different kind of denim that apparently you don't wash. huwaaat? eww. instead you're supposed to put it in the freezer to kill the bacteria. hmmm will that work here, where you sweat and encounter more than just bacteria? we shall see...

so to help introduce this dutch clothing brand to the local market, they got five personalities to act as brand ambassadors. let's meet them!

brand ambassador 1: supermodel pauline prieto

brand ambassador 2: commercial director sid maderazo

brand ambassador 3: it-boy/model/retailer/hipster/crush ng bayan michael concepcion

brand ambassador 4: designer gian romano

brand ambassador 5: supermodel/DJ sanya smith

G-star raw is located at bonifacio high street central 2/f right above the row of luxury-watch stores

another AM-to-PM look

yesterday was another one of those days when you have to go to the office then attend an event, then attend another that requires attire that is red-carpet ready?? whuuut?

so here i am at the opening of G-star raw, a jeans brand from amsterdam. i wore a folded & hung strappy jersey dress and topped it with a collezione C2 waterfall cardigan. primadonna flatforms, fendi kili-kili bag, eyeglasses bought at a seoul street market (changed the lenses with grade), vintage silver chain necklace with a tod's keychain for a pendant:
before the party crowd surged in, i left for the premiere of benchingko films (short films produced by bench for their 25th anniversary--get it?? clever eh?). attire was red-carpet ready. juice ko. so i switched the cardi for a sequined tee by topshop and added a gold cuff from bali, gold-chain-strap bag by nine west, and metallic sandals by montego bay club.
tomorrow, all about G-star and benchingko!

AM to PM

today was another of those "tuhog" days, where you go from one appointment to another. so you have to wear an outfit that can survive the whole day and is still appropriate for each activity scheduled.

the day started with a shoot at the bellevue hotel in alabang. this is what i wore: muji cardigan, bench body tank top, banana republic skirt, geox flats (to switch to heels for my evening event kung kaya pa--hindi ko kinaya), real and faux pearls, and a tiffany & co necklace. (odiba channeling chanel!)

after, i met up with the brand managers of l'oréal for happy hour at stella, BHS central. they discussed the upcoming cosmetics collections of lancôme and shu uemura, as well as fragrances by armani and ralph lauren. and look who i met: it's mon shu, the adorable albeit stylish mascot of the upcoming karl lagerfeld x shu uemura collab, launching in nov 2012! (don't we match in our chanel-ish outfits? :-)

then i stopped by the bulgari complicated watch collection launch at arthaland pavilion. this was my favorite one (only P807,000!):

rain sun rain

this morning as i got dressed to leave the house, it was dark and gloomy and raining. by the time i got to my lunch appointment, the sun was out and it was HOT. how ridiculous did i look?? but thank god for the layering technique. all i had to do was peel off the jacket and toss the skinny muffler. then i needed them again tonight as i had to walk from building to building in greenbelt--not good when it's raining.

brown on brown on brown (with a touch of green--i'm a tree!) at romulo café in quezon city (how fab is that wallpaper??). mom's vintage raincoat, collezione C2 faux tie-dye men's T-shirt, herbench pants, prada boots, avon giveaway tote bag (which I use for all my office basura and is getting heavier by the day), kids of bayo skinny muffler.

tod's f/w 2012 collection

it seems like only yesterday when tod's last had a press presentation of its latest collection. and here we are again at the peninsula manila presidential suite, having tea and admiring (and drooling over) the bags and shoes on display. shall we have a look-see?

signature collection in classic patent but in new shapes. this is my favorite:

new this season: flat-leather totes, the bag style most women love for everyday use (including me :-)

and if that's too common for you, how about a bright orange shearling drawstring bag?? (yes, lined in real shearling! this is going to be pretty pricey!)

can't wait to travel to a fall/winter destination with these knee-high boots! check out the pebble detail—classic tod's:

suede flatform boots--they look super comfy!

a big clutch in persian lamb (also available in two-tone leather, seen behind):

your favorite mocs in fun animal prints:

and what's this? a surprise from tod's: metallics!

the f/w 2012 collection will start rolling out mid-august. tod's is located at greenbelt 4.

and here's what i wore: etro shirt, rhett eala skirt, matthews slingbacks from CMG, necklace from bangkok, gucci sunnies, and a tod's signature tote borrowed from the display!

cover shoot

today i had a cover shoot at an on-going development that in the next few years sees itself as the new rockwell center. it's along edsa, right behind edsa central. and we shot at the showroom of twin oaks, one of several residential towers currently being built. the lobby of the showroom had several not-so-scary pieces by artist gabby barredo. if you're familiar with his work, then you'll know what i mean. here's one, a very interesting functioning chandelier:

here's a behind-the-scenes sneak peek of who we shot! a super-stylish and super-classy woman. follow @styleweekend on twitter and find out who! (her cover will be out next friday.)

and here's what i wore to shoot day: british india jacket, U tank top, paul smith jeans, the ramp flatforms, burberry belt, arm party.

a closeup of the arm party! assorted bands and bracelets by jewelmer, havaianas, tod's, oysho, louis vuitton, pandora, loewe, and evil eyes from istanbul.

jul b dizon 34th anniv

as the title says, there was a little tea-time event held at edsa shangri-la thursday afternoon. and since i knew i would be surrounded by the type of women who don't flinch when dropping a cool million for a pair of earrings dripping in diamonds, i had to look the part. ish. everything i wore was old!

vintage cardigan (thrifted in reno, nevada), vintage sleeveless top (made by the modista with tela i bought, like back in the 80s), paul smith skirt, forever 21 wedges, louis vuitton epi leather pochette, vintage brooches (i have a whole collection from different sources including my lola and mother).
here's a closeup of my cluster of vintage mini brooches!

and here are a few pieces spotted at the event! you likey? (my favorite piece is that chunky amber necklace with pavé diamond balls. mga P350,000 lang naman...)

below, janina dizon helps the ladies pick out some pieces, while candy dizon welcomes their image model lucy torres-gomez. congrats!

party at privé

lola liza doesn't usually go to events after dinner, but rhett eala is a friend so when he invited me to tonight's party at privé, i said... sige na nga! it was a party sponsored by belvedere vodka to welcome liz uy as the new plains & prints brand ambassador. (apparently they're not called image models anymore. napaka-passé na term, very last millennium lang.) the invite said 9pm, so i said let's go early so we can leave early. the hubby and i arrived at 9:15pm and oh em gee pina-alis kami kasi closed pa daw!! so we decided to just kill time with pica-pica and beer at draft (that's another annoying story. next time). we finally went back at 11pm and by this time the place was full and really hopping. and just in time to catch raymond gutierrez introduce liz!

here's rhett, liz, and half a raymond:

check out the crowd that came for liz--wow! (dami kaya nyang fans--just check how many followers she has on twitter and instagram. i'm one of them!)

here's tonight's outfit: randy ortiz for myth men's jacket, jerome lorico for folded & hung men's shirt, CPS chaps black jeans, hogan patent boots.

let's eat: sushi sei

the hubby and i like to eat out. and eat good. so when someone recommends a restaurant--old or new, cheap or expensive, near or far--it goes on our list. so when someone suggested we check out a new japanese restaurant called sushi sei, we didn't hesitate to drive out all the way to parañaque (which is far if you don't live in the south).

it took a while to find because aguirre street is a long stretch of road filled with restaurants! all kinds! they say a good sign is when there's lots of cars parked in front and the place is full. well, not always because when we finally found sushi sei there was only a truck parked in front of it, which was blocking the sign so we were lucky to even spot it.

sushi sei is tiny. it consists of a sushi bar with chef seijyu standing behind it and seats only around 10 people. and there were two seats left--yey! there is no menu and dishes are served omakase-style, which means you leave everything up to the chef. he'll make and serve whatever is fresh from the market--or whatever he feels like! so picky eaters need not apply.
chef seijyu served us a series of sushis, and each time he would say, no soy sauce. he dipped each one in his own special sauce, which gave the raw fish enough flavor. see pix below!
feel free to chat up the chef, he'll be happy to explain. and don't worry about being lost in translation--chef seijyu speaks perfect english. with an american accent at that! he lived in the US for many years and in fact had worked and/or owned several japanese restaurants in san francisco and miami. after he closed the last one, he moved to the philippines to teach some kind of martial art (sorry wit ko knowsing).

sushi sei also serves cooked food during the weekdays. closed on mondays. located at 325 aguirre st, BF homes, parañaque city, cel +63905-513-5226
